Dewalt DW625EK Router

Features And Specifications Of The Dewalt DW625 EK 1/2" Electric Router

If you are an experienced woodworker or joiner you will not need any introduction to this particular electric router.

The Dewalt DW625EK Router is the most popular portable electric routing machine sold worldwide, and its easy to see why!

Almost identical to its predecessor, the famous Elu MOF 177E router, this power tool is built to the highest of standards, is powerful, reliable, and offers great all round wood routing performance.

One of this tools best qualities is the massive range of accessories and attachments that can be bought to allow it to do almost anything the home woodworker or professional tradesman needs. This includes both original equipment that carries the highly respected Dewalt name as well as independant manufacturers such as the well known Trend Woodworking companys vast range.

The Dewalt DW625 EK is a 13mm (1/2" capacity) electric router. Available in 110v and 240v options this powerful machine accepts all popular sizes of router cutters through its multi collet fitments. Different collets are available for the DW625 to accept different cutter shaft diameters. These include 1/4", 8mm, 9.5mm (3/8"), and the most used; 1/2". If you were only able to choose one portable router to buy it would have to be this model!

This great all rounder features a very powerful high wattage motor coupled with a variable speed control and electronic speed feedback module. The high powered motor gives the router enough power to cut and shape soft and hard woods as well as difficult laminates such as kitchen worktops and melamines.

The adjustable speed control lets the user set the right speed for the hardness of the wood, the size and profile of router bit fitted, and the speed of movement of the router itself. The speed feedback module controls the speed of the DW625's motor by constantly measuring the torque of the cutter. When under load it increases power throughput enabling this router to maintain a near constant cutting performance.

Man made kitchen worktops in particular take a lot out of a routers motor due to the high content of glue and resin included during their construction. It is recommended that where possible only TCT cutters are used when profiling any type of man made worktop that comprises glue or resin in its construction.

Large sections of timber can be shaped with the large 80mm plunge stroke of this 1/2" router. A magnified scale allows the user to easily set the required plunge control. It is small features like this that set the Dewalt DW625 miles ahead of some other brands.

Routing accuracy is controlled with the alloy parallel side fence that has a fine adjustment control as standard.

High Powered Electric Motor

The electric motor in this power tool is an individual component motor rated with an input power of 2000w. It is built up in separate components including the armature, field coil windings, and carbon brush assemblies. Sealed ball bearing races are used for both the top and bottom armature mounting points giving low friction and greater build quality. Coupled to the speed control module (with full wave electronic control) this router has a no load operating speed range of 8000 rpm to 20000 rpm. The electronics fitted to the DW625 permit a soft start up of its motor. Whether you buy a 110 volt or 240v unit this is a standard fitment that helps the woodworker eliminate initial movements that could miss- align the cutter, resulting in a poor finish to the job in question.

Bronze Bushed Aluminium Housings

The Dewalt DW625 Router features aluminium housings that accept the guide fence and any guide bush you wish to fit. These housings being spring loaded, employ bronze bushes to permit a smooth router plunging action as well as plunging accuracy. In the lower housing a mounting is present to permit the fitment of a dust extraction spout. A plastic dust spout is included with the purchase of a Dewalt DW625EK and allows easy fitment to an extraction hose / pipe and a dust vacuum cleaner.

Easy Changing Of Router Bits

Once you have fitted the retaining collet of choice to this machine, cutters can be swapped with ease due to the
built in spindle lock. With a simple press of the lock button only one wrench (supplied) is needed to slacken off the spindle nut, allowing the cutter to be removed from the routers shaft.
